Stuart Hall
Born on Christmas Day in Hyde, Cheshire and educated at Glossop Grammar School, Stuart gained an M.A with Hons. from the university of Manchester. After National Service, Stuart joined the family business as director of catering. He was always keen on broadcasting, motor racing and sport. Stuart in fact, played soccer with Crystal Palace and as an amateur with Derbyshire and Lancashire. At school and college Stuart produced and directed many plays, he was chairman of the Debating Society and was also the founder of the English Language society devoted to the preservation, through standard English, of the great British authors. “With this background it was inevitable that I would be drawn to broadcasting”.1959 - Stuart joined the BBC as a general reporter on “Radio Newsreel” and as sports journalist with “Sports Report”. Stuart is still broadcasting with “ Sports Report”
1971 – 1982 - Presented IT`s A KNOCKOUT and “Jeux Sans Froniers” to a weekly audience of 15million. In 1993 the programme received an award for the top rated show of 1977 & 1986. Stuart produced with Prince Edward and presented “The Royal Knockout”
1965 – 1990 - Stuart presented the BBC`s weeknight “North West Tonight” programme – 2 million regular viewers. “My fledglings included John Humphreys, Nick Clarke and David Davies”
1990 – 1994 - Stuart joined Granada Television in 1990 and presented “Travellers Check” a weekly half hour travel programme that achieved a 40% share against Eastenders. Stuart also produced/presented a series of half hour specials “Stuart Hall`s Christams in Bosnia”, “Stuart Hall remembers Flanders” – “an amotional return to the battle fields on the 75th anniversary of World War I” and “Chef Sans Froniters” 6 English chefs winning the accolade from the heads of the Champagne Houses in Rheims.
1998 – 1999 – “Sick as A Parrot” for Channel 5 – Stuart was one of two team captains of this fast moving comedy sports quiz. He also captained five series of “Sick as a Parrot” for Mentorn Radio – the sports quiz show which is broadcast on Five Live on Saturday mornings.
1998 - Stuart hosted “Going Going Gone” – BBC`s afternoon antiques quiz show that test the knowledge of two contestants on a selection of antiques with the help of three celebrity guests/antique experts.
1998 – 1999 - Stuart has also proved popular as the interactive voice for many entertainment shows which included Shane Ritchies`s “Love me Do” and “Lucky Numbers, aswell as the risque late night blind date programme “Gods Gift”.
Currently: On Saturday afternoons you can tune into Stuart`s histrionics on “Sports Report” which is broadcast on Five Live and BBC World Service.
