Gavin Ramjaun
Gavin Ramjaun, 25, is a television and radio news presenter / reporter, on CBBC's popular children's programmes Newsround and Sportsround. Gavin's enthusiasm and talent mirrors his rapid rise through the ranks; from being a runner on Ant and Dec's Saturday Takeaway programme on ITV, to his current role as presenter and reporter on Newsround's team - and all in two years!
Worcester born and bred, he studied Public Relations at Cardiff before completing a postgraduate diploma in Journalism at London's City University. He was a trainee at ITV's Meridian region.
In his current role as a presenter/reporter on Newsround, Gavin's typical day involves lots of variety. Alongside going out on the road tackling national news stories, he presents bulletins dealing with the latest news from the UK and around the world. He is often in at 5.30am to help put together the early morning programmes beginning at 7am, in which Gavin plays his part through scripting, writing and editing. His radio-presenting involves a daily news update on digital radio station BBC7, plus an international news bulletin in conjunction with BBC World Class. This is a global news update with an international story focus available for download on the BBC website.
"The best thing about this job is the contact I've had with children who want to know what's going on in the world. I love it because it makes a difference to viewers' lives and makes news accessible. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to do something I love."
Although from the West Midlands, he has extended family in various parts of the world, including Mauritius (where his parents are originally from) and France. He's also spent time in the United States coaching football (or soccer as they insist on calling it) to youngsters, and is well travelled.
Away from the screen he is an Arsenal fan.
