Sophie Raworth
Sophie Raworth is the presenter of BBC ONE's One O'Clock News. She took over from Anna Ford in June 2006. She had, since January 2003, presented BBC ONE's Six O'Clock News with George Alagiah. Before this, Sophie presented Breakfast alongside Jeremy Bowen.
She joined Breakfast News in 1997, co-presenting the programme four days a week.
She is also a regular presenter with the BBC Events team.
She co-presented the BBC's coverage of both Prince Charles' marriage to Camilla Parker-Bowles in April 2005 and the Queen's 80th birthday party celebrations this year.
Other projects include the State Opening of Parliament, the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, presenting alongside David Dimbleby, and a one-hour live debate on the future of the monarchy, Our Monarchy - the Next 50 Years, again alongside David Dimbleby.
Sophie also spent a fortnight on the BBC's election bus during the 2005 General Election campaign, reporting and presenting from towns and cities up and down the UK. She has anchored programmes from Los Angeles on Oscars night, from Israel and from Washington DC during President Clinton's impeachment trial.
Away from news Sophie was a regular reporter on BBC ONE's Tomorrow's World, including a 30-minute special on altitude sickness from Bolivia. She also presented a six-part science and technology series Dream Lives on BBC ONE. Other programmes include the daytime quiz show Judgemental and 4X4, a BBC ONE current affairs programme.
Sophie Raworth joined the BBC's regional trainee scheme in 1992. She went on to become a reporter for BBC GMR in Manchester. In April 1994 Sophie moved to Brussels to become Europe producer for the regions. Then in May 1995 she moved to Leeds to BBC Look North. It was here that she first presented the news as well as continuing to report and produce it.
In 1997 she moved to London to take up her role on Breakfast News.
Sophie studied French and German at Manchester University. As part of her course she spent a year teaching English to teenagers in Toulouse. On completion of her degree, she began a postgraduate course in broadcasting and journalism at City University, London.
She is married and lives in London with her husband and their three children.
