Virginia Wade

Virginia was born in Bournemouth in 1945 and has been one of the most successful British tennis players of all time. She now has one of the most recognisable faces and voices in British tennis.
Her win over Betty Stove came in the Queen's Silver Jubilee year and as such has become one of the tournament's most memorable victories.
Apart from her Wimbledon title, she won the US Open in 1968, the Australian and Italian Opens in 1972, and four Grand Slam doubles titles.
A summariser with the BBC's TV tennis team since 1981, she was awarded the OBE in 1986.
