Jimmy Greaves
Undoubtedly one of the greatest goal scorers of modern times. “If I’d scored every goal I should have scored and missed, and missed every one I did score,” Greaves once claimed “my record would have been the best in history by far.”
Greaves drove, headed and poked 357 goals for Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham, all in the old First Division, plus nine in 10 outings during a fleeting sojourn at AC Milan. His England strike rate of 44 goals in 57 starts, furthermore, remains untouched.
After his football career ended, Greaves reinvented himself as Greavsie, one of the most colourful and entertaining football pundits on television, working for over 10 years alongside his long term friend Ian St John as “Saint and Greavsie”.
Very popular on the after dinner circuit, Jimmy has appeared on the Big Breakfast, Ready Steady Cook and the Johnny Vaughan Show, as well as being a contributor to numerous football documentaries.
His first ever autobiography “Greavsie” was published by Little Brown in August 2003, and was the biggest selling sports documentary of 2003, after David Beckham’s.
