Fiona Castle

 Fiona Castle

Fiona Castle, most well known for her marriage to the late TV entertainer Roy Castle, began her career as a dancer.  She worked in the theatre from 1956 as a dancer and singer and was introduced to Roy Castle by their mutual friend Eric Morcambe.

She married Roy in 1963 and they were together until his death from lung cancer in September 1994.

Fiona Castle has carried on her husband's campaign and until recently was actively involved in the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation which her husband set up shortly before his death. Her involvement with the foundation has seen her raise the profile of the illness, and call for stricter legislation on smoking. Roy Castle—a lifelong non-smoker—blamed his illness on years of playing the trumpet in smoky jazz clubs.

She was very much in favour of the controversial legislation which saw smoking banned from virtually all enclosed public places in Britain from July 2007.

Fiona Castle was awarded the OBE for her services to charity in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2004.
