Garry Richardson

Garry Richardson has worked for the BBC for 41 years, starting as a “tea boy in the BBC Archives!  He is best known as the Sports Presenter on Radio Four's prestigious "Today" programme.  He‘s been appearing on the programme for the past 35 years and is now the longest serving member of the team.

Garry also presents "Sportsweek" on Five Live every Sunday morning and is a regular contributor on BBC Television. He has reported on seven Olympic Games and has interviewed some of the world‘s most famous names including Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Bobby Moore, Sir Stanley Matthews, David Beckham, Tiger Woods, John McEnroe, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eddie Murphy and  Ben Stiller.
Garry's big love is performing on the after dinner circuit. 2016 will mark his 30th year as one of the country's funniest speakers. This review after a performance by Garry during 2015 captures his ability as a speaker perfectly.

“ Garry is a first class and genuinely funny after dinner speaker whose subject matter has appeal across a whole variety of audiences. He is sharp and witty, in a modern way, without ever giving offence. He reminds all the men that they were once boys dreaming of being sports stars and he briefly brings their dreams within touching distance. His wholesome, self deprecating humour appeals equally to men and women in the party, something not always mastered by his peers. He is a man who clearly takes the trouble to understand his audience and prepare his material and delivery accordingly. At the same time he is alert and fleet of foot deftly picking up and responding to the audiences reaction. He entertained and charmed at the Health Shield AGM, not the easiest of things to do.
With 30 years of experience as a speaker and Awards host Garry has spoken with some legendary names from the world of show business. They include Steven Fry, Dame Diana Rigg, Sir John Mills, Bob Monkhouse and Ken Dodd, He has appeared on stage with Jasper Carrot and Alistair McGowan and appeared in a comedy show with Miranda Hart and Alan Carr.
Garry will always liaise with clients ahead of functions making sure nothing is left to chance.  His mixture of anecdotes proves time and time again to be a hit with his audience.

"Peter (Brackley) and Garry provided a premiership ˜first class‘ performance at our annual professional institution dinner. Their double act was full of interesting sporting anecdotes, impersonations and stories from their varied commentaries across radio and television. Their performance on the night was seamless, their comic timing brilliant and their professionalism of the highest order. They ensured our guests were fully entertained, and that the show was successful.  They were keen to understand the audience they were speaking to, help with the proceedings and not to offend anyone.  Many people at the dinner also commented on how friendly and engaging they were before the dinner, during the meal and after the formal proceedings."  Adrian Northey, Chair of IChemE Teesside members group - March 2015

"Garry was great a real professional who certainly made my life a lot easier on the night by keeping the evening moving and the guests entertained. We have received very positive feedback from our guests, with several commenting that he was 'an inspired choice'.  Everyone has commented on how much they enjoyed his speech. It gave a fascinating insight into your broadcasting career and proved to be extremely amusing for sports fans and non-sports fans alike"  October 2014
