Reigning 2008 Olympic Champion in the Team Pursuit Geraint Thomas successfully defended his title at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Geraint is one of British cycling's biggest names and a rider who is as strong on the road as he is on the track.  He turned professional in 2007 with the South African sponsored Barloworld team and participated in the Tour de France where he was the youngest rider and the first Welsh rider to ride the Tour since 1967.

In 2008 Geraint focused on the track, becoming World Champion in the Team Pursuit, then he went to the Beijing Olympics and won Gold, breaking the world record twice on the way.

The following year he signed for the newly established British pro team, Team Sky and in an impressive breakthrough year he had a spell in the top ten of the Tour de France and in the white jersey for Best Young Rider. He also won the British National Championships Road Race.

In 2011 he took his first major stage victory at the Bayern-Rundfahrt and in the Tour de France he was  Britain's top placed rider, finishing three weeks of racing in 31st position. He was also a key member of the 2011 World Championships team that delivered Mark Cavendish to win.

In 2012 Geraint also continued to ride for Team Sky but his year centred on the track and the London 2012 Olympics where he achieved his second Olympic Gold medal.
