South African stand up comedian who was born in the Cape Town township of Gugulethu.
After performing a stand-up opening act for comedian Marc Lottering at his high school, his drama teacher introduced him to the Cape Comedy Collective at the age of 17. He subsequently job shadowed stand-up comedians from the comedy troupe for a school work experience programme and began performing on stage regularly. He moved to Johannesburg and his television career began in 2002.
He is the star writer and host of the two Emmy-nominated political satire shows, Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola and he has been enthralling stand-up and television audiences around the world for over a decade.
Loyiso's refreshingly frank and outspoken comedy breaks taboos, with no fear of controversy, and as noted by the Wall Street Journal is "taking South Africa by storm." Winner of numerous accolades, including South Africa's 'comic of the year" for the year of 2014, Loyiso has also been featured at top international comedy festivals, including Just for Laughs and the Edinburgh Fringe
