Sara Cox hosts her Radio 1 show every Saturday and Sunday 1pm-4pm. She hosted drive time every weekday before going on maternity leave.
Before this show she hosted the breakfast show and was only the second female presenter of the station's flagship show. She presented her first breakfast show on Friday 31 March 2000.
She left school at the age of 18, but despite gaining four A-level passes, she decided to pursue a career in modelling rather than becoming a student. It was while modelling that she was first scouted for television, by the producers behind The Girlie Show in 1994.
Bolton born Sara joined Radio 1 in September 1999 to co-present the Saturday lunchtime show alongside Emma B, as well as launching the Sunday Surgery, where she tackled listeners' personal problems alongside Dr Mark Hamilton. The show, along with the production team who made it won a Sony Gold Radio Award for Public Service in May 2000.
Sara took on the TV project Born Sloppy in Dec 2002 for Channel 4 and other TV work has included Make My Day (CH 4) Top of the Pops (BBC 1), The Big Breakfast, Channel 5's entertainment show Exclusive, shows on MTV and Channel 4's The Girlie Show.
Throughout the Summer of 2000 Sara helped lead Radio 1's Live Music assault of the UK, presenting One Big Sunday events around the country, as well as taking her show to Ibiza and Glastonbury and the Radio 1 Love Parade. She continued in summer 2001 with Ibiza and an even bigger set of One Big Sundays. Sara has also won awards for Best DJ from Smash Hits and The Sun.
Sara has fronted a number of Radio 1's live events during the summer of 2003 and 2004.
In June 2004 Sara gave birth to a daughter Lola Anne. She is married to renowned DJ and artist Jon Carter.
