Charles Burns - Silhouettes in the Trenches

Charles Burns is a silhouette artist, with whom we've had the pleasure of working with for many years.

As well as a master practitioner of the art, he's also researched its history, and made a documentary on it which is available through Amazon. Fascinatingly, there was a renaissance in silhouette art in the early part of the 20th Century, and many of the practitioners went on to become soldier-silhouettists in the trenches. One of them, Harry Lawrence Oakley was regularly featured in Bystander Magazine (modern day Tatler).

His recent blog goes into more detail and makes a fascinating read.

The art form certainly has a storied past, but it still delights to this day at events, providing a unique memento for people to take home with them. Do check out Charles' page.
